This Standard specifies technical criteria for terminal
\nequipment approved in accordance with Title 47 of the U.S. Code of
\nFederal Regulations (47 C.F.R.), Part 68 for direct connection to
\nthe public switched telephone network, including private line
\nservices provided over wireline facilities owned by providers of
\nwireline telecommunications.<\/p>\n
Conformance to the technical criteria in this Standard does not
\nassure compatibility with wireline carrier services.<\/p>\n
Except for the grandfathered terminal equipment identified in
\nAnnex A, the technical criteria in this Standard applies to direct
\nconnection of terminal equipment (TE) and certain types of test
\nequipment (see clause 3.1) to the following types of wireline
\ncarrier interfaces:<\/p>\n
a) Loop start (not including party lines)<\/p>\n
b) Ground start<\/p>\n
c) Loop reverse-battery incoming (e.g., direct inward dialing
\nand public safety answering point trunks)<\/p>\n
d) Loop reverse-battery outgoing (e.g., E911 PBX trunks)<\/p>\n
e) E&M (e.g., analog tie trunks)<\/p>\n
f) Off-premises station (OPS)<\/p>\n
g) Private line (ringdown, voice band metallic, and in-band)<\/p>\n
h) Local area data channel<\/p>\n
i) Subrate (e.g., 1.2, 2.4, 4.8, 9.6, and 56 kbps DDS)<\/p>\n
j) PSDS Types I, II, and III<\/p>\n
k) DS1 and ISDN PRI (1.544 Mbps)<\/p>\n
l) ISDN BRI and IDSL<\/p>\n
m) ADSL, ADSL2, ADSL2+, and reach extended ADSL2 (READSL2)<\/p>\n
n) SHDSL and ESHDSL<\/p>\n
o) HDSL2, SMC4, and HDSL4<\/p>\n
p) SDSL<\/p>\n
q) SMC6, VDSL, and VDSL2<\/p>\n
r) SMC2, SMC3, SMC7, SMC8, and other DSL<\/p>\n
Requirements retained by the Federal Communications Commission
\n(FCC) in 47 C.F.R. Part 68, including hearing aid compatibility and
\nvolume control, are not covered by this Standard.<\/p>\n
Equipment grandfathered by FCC action is identified in Annex A
\nalong with the conditions that allow such TE to be connected
\nwithout approval.<\/p>\n
PURPOSE<\/strong><\/p>\n The purpose of this Standard is to provide technical criteria to Telecommunications – Telephone Terminal Equipment – Technical Requirements for Connection of Terminal Equipment to The Telephone Network<\/b><\/p>\n
\nprotect wireline carrier networks from the harms defined by the
\nFederal Communications Commission in 47 C.F.R. section 68.3. This
\nStandard was developed for submission to the Administrative Council
