Abstract

This specification establishes the requirements for phosphorized copper in refinery shapes such as wire bars, billets, and cakes. The product furnished shall be produced from one of the following copper UNS Nos.: C10300, C10800, C12000, C12200, and C14200. Billets shall be supplied sheared on one end with the other end flat or with both ends flat depending on the specified diameter. The product shall conform to the chemical composition requirements prescribed for copper and silver, phosphorus, and arsenic. The electrical mass resistivity for phosphorized copper in annealed condition is specified. The requirements for chemical analysis, reverse bend test (hydrogen embrittlement susceptibility), and microscopical examination are detailed including sampling and specimen preparation.

This abstract is a brief summary of the referenced standard. It is informational only and not an official part of the standard; the full text of the standard itself must be referred to for its use and application. ASTM does not give any warranty express or implied or make any representation that the contents of this abstract are accurate, complete or up to date.

1. Scope

1.1 This specification establishes the requirements for phosphorized copper wire bars, billets, and cakes.

Note 1ā€”Wire bars furnished under this specification do not conform in dimensions with that furnished under Specification B5 .

1.2 Units ā€” Values stated in inch-pound units are to be regarded as standard. The values given in parentheses are mathematical conversions to SI units, which are provided for information only and are not considered standard.

1.3 The following safety hazard caveat pertains only to the test method in sections 14.2 and 14.3 in this specification.

1.3.1 This standard does not purport to address all of the safety concerns, if any, associated with its use. It is the responsibility of the user of this standard to establish appropriate safety and health practices and determine the applicability of regulatory limitations prior to use.

2. Referenced Documents (purchase separately) The documents listed below are referenced within the subject standard but are not provided as part of the standard.
