Radio channel coding is present in all radios in a<br \/>\nsystem with a wide band air interface.<\/p>\n<p>The radio channel coding functions are used to maximize data<br \/>\nthroughput and minimize delay through the error prone Wideband Air<br \/>\nInterface (WAI). Figure 2 shows the reference configuration of a<br \/>\nWAI transmitter, and Figure 3 shows the reference configuration of<br \/>\na WAI receiver. One Wideband Air Interface is defined for Scalable<br \/>\nAdvanced Modulation (SAM) in reference [1]. These diagrams show the<br \/>\nmajor processing blocks between the radio channel coding and<br \/>\nphysical layers. These functions are common across all WAI<br \/>\nconfiguration modes and except for scrambling they are described<br \/>\nhere. The scrambler and forward error correction (FEC) coding<br \/>\nfunction blocks operate at a bit level while the interleaver and<br \/>\nmodulator operate at a symbol level.<\/p>\n<p>The functions and procedures for radio channel coding include<br \/>\nscrambling which is defined and described in the MAC\/RLA Layer<br \/>\nSpecification given in reference [2].
