This Standard covers optical fiber communications cables
\nintended for use in Indoor-Outdoor optical fiber applications.
\nMaterials, constructions and performance requirements are included
\nin the Standard, together with applicable test procedures. Refer to
\nICEA S-83-596 for optical fiber communications cables intended for
\nindoor use, and to ICEA S-87-640 for optical fiber communication
\ncables intended for outdoor use.<\/p>\n

When a composite cable (a cable with both optical fibers and
\nmetallic conductors) is required, the applicable metallic conductor
\nrequirements shall be as established by agreement between the end
\nuser and the cable manufacturer. The requirements of ANSI\/ICEA
\nS-84-608 should be considered when determining appropriate
\nrequirements.<\/p>\n

All designs covered by the Standard are intended for operation
\nunder normal conditions found in the outside plant environment and
\nin the communications user's premises. These products normally
\nconvey communications signals (voice, video, and data) from point
\nto point or point to multi point, within and outside buildings.
\nProducts covered by this Standard may be factory terminated with
\nconnectors or splicing modules.<\/p>\n

Indoor-Outdoor cables are generally used in short lengths, to
\nmake interconnections within and between adjacent buildings. These
\ncables are fully resistant to the typical outside plant
\nenvironment, but their attenuation characteristics are not
\nnecessarily the same as long-length Outside Plant Communications
\ncables. See part 8 of this specification.<\/p>\n

The standard installation tensile rating for cables covered by
\nthis Standard is 2670 N (600 lb.) for cables with more than 12
\nfibers and 1335 N (300 lb.) for cables with less than or equal to
\n12 fibers. The residual load is defined as a load equivalent to 30
\npercent of the rated installation load.<\/p>\n

The standard minimum bend diameter for cables covered by this
\nStandard are:<\/p>\n

Unloaded Condition (Installed): 20 x Cable OD<\/p>\n

Loaded Condition (During Installation): 40 x Cable OD<\/p>\n

Products covered by this Standard shall comply with the
