Introduction
This Part defines the CDPD lower layer subprofiles for services
and protocols in the Transport and Network layers. The CDPD Service
Provider must select at least one subprofile from among this set
for the provision of CDPD lower layer services.
The primary reference for this Part is the
Industry/Government Open System Specification [IGOSS-1].
The primary reference for the protocols in this Part is the
Stable Implementation Agreements for Open Systems
Interconnection Protocols [OIW-1].
In selecting lower layer subprofiles, the CDPD Service Provider
must determine the CDPD communication role(s) a system must
support. For the provision of End System services the CDPD Network
mandates support of the Internet CLNS subprofile. For the provision
of CDPD support service, the CDPD Network mandates support of the
ISO COTS-CLNS subprofile. For the support of Intermediate System
services CDPD mandates support of the CDPD CLNS-Relay subprofile
and the CDPD Mobile CLNS-Relay subprofile.
The complete set of requirements of Transport and Network Layer
protocols is a combination of the selected lower layer subprofiles,
service interfaces and performance requirements. Particular
attention should be paid to the additional functional and interface
requirements upon Network Layer protocols (e.g., CLNP,
ES-IS, IS-IS, IP, MNLP) dictated by the Subnetwork subprofiles with
which they are combined.
