Scope
This Standard provides a guide to the features and typical characteristics of long-life textured coatings, which do not utilize aggregates, intended for exterior or interior use on concrete and masonry, when applied by airless spray, hopper spray or roller in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions.
Paints covered by this Standard are classified as paint Type 38 of AS 2311 and correspond generally to Australian Paint Approval Scheme specification Type 3 of GPC-C-117.
Non-aggregate, low to medium profile textured latex coatings are selected for aesthetic purposes to provide attractive decorative profiles, according to the application technique used. Application may be by textured roller, airless spray or hopper spray, depending upon the profile required, and will achieve a spreading rate of
1.0-2.0 m2/L (1.0-0.5 L/m2).
This type of coating is generally specified in a system including a topcoat of material as characterized by
AS/NZS 4548.2 where maximum resistance to moisture ingress and dirt pick-up is required.
These coatings are not intended for use on horizontal surfaces where water ponding is possible. They are normally specified in systems that may have a sealer and multiple coats.
NOTES:
1 AS/NZS 4548.5 provides a test which may be used to check the cure of concrete and masonry surfaces before applying the sealer.
2 Appendix A provides guidance on the use of long-life coatings for concrete and masonry.
