This Standard specifies the electrical characteristics of the
\nunbalanced voltage digital interface circuit, normally implemented
\nin integrated circuit .technology, that may be employed when
\nspecified for the interchange of serial binary signals between Data
\nTerminal Equipment (DTE) and Data Circuit-Terminating Equipment
\n(DCE) or in any point-to-point interconnection of serial binary
\nsignals between digital equipment.<\/p>\n
This Standard is compatible with ITU-T (Formerly CCilT)
\nRecommendation V.l O.<\/p>\n
The interface circuit includes a generator connected by a
\ninterconnecting cable to a load consisting of a receiver or
\nreceivers. The electrical characteristics of the circuit are
\nspecified in terms of required voltage, current, and resistance
\nvalues obtained from direct measurements of the generator and
\nreceiver components at the interface points. The logic function of
\nthe generator and the receiver is not defined by this Standard, as
\nit is application dependent. The requirements for signal wave
\nshaping, generally necessary to reduce unbalanced circuit near-end
\ncrosstalk to adjacent circuits, are also described. The receiver
\nspecification for the unbalanced interface is identical to that
\nspecified for the balanced interface circuit in TINEIA-422-B.
\nMinimum performance requirements for the interconnecting cable are
\nfurnished. Guidance is given in Annex A.l with respect to
\nlimitations on data signaling rate imposed by the parameters of the
\ncable length and generation of near-end crosstalk.<\/p>\n
The parameter values specified for the unbalanced generator and
\nload components of the interface are designed such that unbalanced
\ninterface circuits may be used within the same interconnection as
\nbalanced interface circuits specified by TINEIA-422-B. For example,
\nthe balanced circuits may be used for data and timing while the
\nunbalanced circuits may be used for low speed control functions. In
\naddition, interoperation may be possible under certain conditions
\nwith generators and receivers of other digital interface standards
\nsuch as EIWIA-232-E (see Annex B Section B.l).<\/p>\n
It is intended that this Standard will be referenced by other
\nstandards that specify the complete DTE\/DCE interface (Le.,
\nconnector, pin .assignments, function) for applications where the
\nelectrical characteristics of an unbalanced voltage digital
\ninterface circuit are required. This Standard does not specify
\nother characteristics of the DTE\/DCE interface (such as signal
\nquality and timing, etc.) essential for proper operation across the
\ninterface.<\/p>\n
When this Standard is referenced by other standards or
\nspecifications, it should be noted that certain options are
\navailable. The preparer of those referencing standards and
\nspecifications must determine and specify those optional features
